CANDLE CARE + TIPS

Looking after your candle:

It is very important to allow your natural soy wax candles to burn all the way to the edge of the container the first time you light them. This will ensure that your candle does not 'tunnel' as it burns leaving wax at the sides of the container. We recommend that you burn your small and medium sized candles between 1.5 - 3 hours at a time, and never more than 4 hours and the mini size candles that come in a gift set we recommend that you light for just 1 hour at a time.

Always allow your candle to cool and harden before re-lighting.

Trim your wick to approx 5mm before each burn & ensure any debris is removed before you light again.

You should cease to use your candle when there is between 5-1cm of wax left at the bottom of the jar.

Keep your candles away from direct sunlight & heat sources .

Basic candle Safety:

Never leave clean burning candles unattended.

Ensure candles are placed away from drafts, children, pets & flammable materials.

Always place your candles on a heat-resistant base & on a level, stable surface.

Never allow the flame touch the glass - check that the wick is centred.

The glass container will become hot when in use, allow the wax to cool completely before handling the jar or tin.

Features of Soy Wax Candles:

Soy wax is a natural product and is sensitive to temperature changes.

Frosting (white spots) are a natural characteristic of soy.

You may find the wax contracting slightly in areas & pulling away from the glass inside the jar when it is in cooler temperatures or it can sweat (droplets of oil pooling on the top of the candle) in warmer temperatures. Rest assured that none of these characteristics will have any effect on the performance of your candle.

Why we use Soy wax for our candles:

Soy wax is made from Soy Beans which are a sustainable, renewable, carbon neutral source, unlike paraffin wax which is made from crude oil. Soy wax burns slowly, cleaner and does not release toxins or carcinogens into the air because soy wax is a natural plant based product. Unlike cheap paraffin candles that release petrol-carbon soot that can blacken walls, if you do experience some sooting from a soy candle then you may need to shorten the wick to approx 5mm and check that you have not exceeded the recommended burn time. Soy wax has a lower melting point than paraffin wax and because of this, Soy candles will burn cooler, slower & longer.

Soy wax is naturally biodegradable making accidental spills easier to clean with warm soapy water.

When you've finished burning your candle you can wash away any residue wax with warm soapy water, pop the wick pin out of the bottom of the container and it will be as good as new and ready to re-use or recycle with all other glass.
